Recently I have learned a really good concept of leadership without authority. It basically means to take responsibility without waiting for someone to give you any authority and work on any area that you think needs improvement.
One of the greatest and impactful quote I have read in my life was during learning this concept of leadership wothout confidence. It stated that,
“OUR GREATEST FEAR IS NOT THAT WE ARE INADEQUATE. OUR GREATEST FEAR IS THAT WE ARE POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE. IT IS OUR LIGHT, AND NOT OUR DARKNESS, THAT FRIGHTENS US” — Marriane Williamson.
This made me realize how simple the concept of leadership is. And it actually starts from ourselves. So, I did some fixing around me that I would usually procrastinate. While, learning about this, my workplace looked like this,
So, I decided to begin form here as it all starts from the smallest of things. Usually I would've delayed this to weekends but this time I wanted to do things right away! So, the after picture of my workplace is as under.
My second task was to fix my bracelet. I like this one so much so I did not throw it away after it was broken. Instead I kept it so that I can fix it later. Usually, I would’ve delayed this task until the next time I had to wear it. Following is the picture of my broken bracelet, the process of fixing it and then the final product respectively.
My third activity was to arrange the coat rack in my study room. It was so messy before and after re-arranging it felt as if it had became lighter.
My fourth activity was to arrange my tool drawer. If I am being honest. I would have delayed this as much as I could’ve because it was never on my to-do list. But I figured it needed a bit of attention as well. The before and after picture attached below.
I felt so satisfied after doing these smallest daily bases tasks. I felt as if I had taked the first step in leadership without authority. It was an extremely good experience.
It relates to leadership without authority because no one directed me to do these certain things. I took the responsibility without anyone asking me to do it and became my own leader.
